How to do it
Open Settings > Company > Company Profile.
The page holds Company Name, Product Name, Company Phone, Currency, Default Client Country and Default Timezone. Company Name is used in the internal organization record. Product Name is shown on login, legal pages and the browser tab. Company Phone is shown on invoice and quote PDFs.
Set Currency.
Currency is the ISO 4217 code used across invoices, estimates and billing. All amounts display in this currency, and the system does not convert. Changing it relabels amounts, it does not convert them.
Set Currency. Set Default Client Country.
Default Client Country is the country to assume for a client whose own billing country is blank. It sets which laws compliance content cites, for security awareness training frameworks for example. A client record with its own country always wins. The page says: "USD is the value every instance starts with, so it is treated as "not stated" rather than as the United States. If your clients are in the US, set this to United States." Leave it on Not set (use Currency, then vendor-neutral) and the portal falls back to the country your Currency implies, which it does only for CAD, GBP, AUD and NZD. Otherwise compliance content stays vendor-neutral.
Set Default Timezone.
Default Timezone is the system-wide default, picked from the full IANA list, each zone with its current GMT offset. SLA and business-hours math use it, organizations and users can override it, and scheduled jobs fire on its wall clock. The holiday region is worked out from it until you pick one. A staff member can set a personal timezone in My Settings > Display.
Find Portal Base URL on Settings > Company > Domains & URLs.
Portal Base URL is the public URL of the portal, used in outgoing emails and links sent to clients. Leave it blank and the portal auto-detects it from the host it is running on. The same page holds Company Domain, which matches your organization in connected systems like your PSA and shared mailbox. It does not decide who is staff.
Find the other company-wide defaults.
Settings > System > Scheduled Jobs lists each background job with its cadence, an On toggle and a Run Now button. Run Now asks you to confirm, shows Running, then Finished or a red reason, and is limited to once per minute for each job. Settings > Billing & Pricing > Invoice Settings holds Numbering & Terms: Invoice Net Terms, Invoice Number Prefix and Invoice Starting Number. Settings > Billing & Pricing > Sales Tax holds Default Sales Tax Rate. While QuickBooks is connected, QuickBooks owns tax, the local rate is not applied and can only be set to 0. Settings > Billing & Pricing > Plans & Pricing holds Prorate Onboarding and Prorate Mid-Cycle Changes.
Ask Elise about these settings.
Elise can explain a setting. For example, "Times are showing in the wrong timezone" or "Set the portal URL" returns the control, its current value and where to change it. She can change one registered setting after you approve it, for example "Set the default timezone to America/New_York", which changes Default Timezone once you tap approve.
What you will have
- Set Company Name, Product Name and Company Phone.
- Set Currency, and know that changing it relabels amounts and never converts them.
- Set Default Client Country so compliance content cites the right country's laws for clients with no country of their own.
- Set Default Timezone, and know what follows it.
- Find Portal Base URL, Scheduled Jobs, Invoice Settings, Sales Tax and Plans & Pricing, where the other company-wide defaults live.
- Ask Elise about these settings and change one after your approval.
Why it works this way: How to set your company profile, currency, timezone and default client country
Company Profile holds the settings that apply to the whole company. Several other company-wide defaults are edited on their own page, so this guide shows where each one lives.
Other ways to do this: How to set your company profile, currency, timezone and default client country
All Settings search
Open Settings > System > All Settings and search by field name. Currency, Portal Base URL and the rest show up with a link to the page that edits them.
The Set up your business wizard
Settings, then System, then Setup Wizards, then Set up your business sets the company name, portal name, phone and default sales tax, and points you to the mailboxes, this page and Branding. The article on the Set up your business wizard walks each lesson.
If it did not work: How to set your company profile, currency, timezone and default client country
- If Default Sales Tax Rate never seems to apply, check whether QuickBooks is connected. QuickBooks owns tax then and the local rate is ignored.
Questions this page answers
Does changing Currency convert existing amounts?
No. Currency sets the default for new invoices and quotes, and for anything with no currency of its own yet. It never converts a number. Every invoice and quote is stamped with its own currency the moment it is made. That stamp never changes later. An invoice billed in CAD still shows CA$ after you switch this setting to USD. Both the number and the symbol stay the same. There is no bulk tool to re-state old invoices in a new currency.
Can I pick any timezone?
Yes - the timezone picker lists every IANA zone the platform runtime knows (400+), not a short regional list. Options are alphabetical, which groups regions naturally, and each label carries the zone's current GMT offset, correct across daylight-saving transitions. The same full list backs the per-user picker in My Settings > Display and the client portal's Settings page.
Can different clients run on different timezones?
Partially. The SLA business-hours clock honors a client organization's own timezone when one is set on its record; everything else - rendered timestamps, cron schedules, time-entry day bucketing - follows the instance Default Timezone set here. There is currently no client-page control for a per-client timezone. Individual staff can set a personal timezone in My Settings > Display, which changes how their dashboards and reports bucket days, not what timestamps show.
What are portal URLs?
Settings → Company → Domains & URLs configures your Portal Base URL, the public address the portal runs at (for example https://portal.yourcompany.com). It is used in outgoing emails and any links sent to clients. Leave it blank to auto-detect from the host the portal is served on. This is a single portal URL, not separate client and admin addresses.
How do cron schedules work?
Settings → System → Scheduled Jobs lists every automated background job with its cadence, a pause/resume toggle, and a rate-limited Run Now. Device sync runs every 5 minutes, email polling every 30 seconds, and others on hourly, daily, or monthly schedules. A changed cadence takes effect when the cron container next starts.
What does billing configuration control?
Billing defaults live under Settings → Billing & Pricing. Invoice Settings sets default payment terms (net days), the invoice number prefix, and the starting invoice number. Sales Tax sets the default sales-tax rate, and Plans & Pricing sets proration behavior. These defaults apply when creating new invoices unless overridden per client.
