How to use the Set up Elise wizard

The Set up Elise wizard gets the assistant working in five short lessons: add an AI provider key, name the assistant, pick its default voice, write down your business context, and read how it runs day to day.

How to do it

  1. Open Settings, then System, then Setup Wizards, and click Set up Elise.

The page is called Guided setup. Wizards are grouped by area, and Set up Elise is under AI. It has 5 lessons. Only a Super Admin or an Admin can open it.

  2. Read the introduction and click Start the lessons.

If you have started before, the button reads "Continue: lesson" with the next lesson number, and "Review the lessons" once every lesson is done. Back and Next let you read ahead without acting. Each lesson has three parts: what it is, Why it matters and How it works.

  3. Lesson 1, Add an AI provider key: click Open AI provider keys and save a key.

Anthropic is the default provider for chat, triage, drafting and dispatch. An OpenAI key next to it covers search by meaning, which Anthropic does not offer. Get an Anthropic key at console.anthropic.com under Settings, then API Keys. Set up billing on that account first, because usage is billed straight to you. Paste the key on the Anthropic page under Admin, then Integrations, then Anthropic, save it, and come back and click Re-check.

Note: Mark verified stays off until the check passes. One working key from either provider is enough for it to show Verified. Skip is there if you want to come back later.
  4. Lesson 2, AI Assistant Name: click Apply recommended to keep Elise, or click Customize.

The name shows in chat, ticket replies and summaries. If you click Customize, type the new name and click Apply custom. The change takes effect straight away across the portal. Skip leaves the name as it is.

  5. Lesson 3, Default Voice & Tone: pick a voice and apply it.

The choices are Professional (default), Friendly, Direct and Casual. Professional is the broadest fit for client replies. Friendly suits shops with close client ties. Direct suits internal-heavy teams. Click Apply recommended for Professional, or click Customize, choose another and click Apply custom. This sets the starting voice. Open Identity, the link on the lesson, to fine-tune it later.

Note: The lesson shows Current beside Recommended so you can see what is set today before you change it.
  6. Lesson 4, Business Context: click Open Business Context, write your entries, then come back and click Got it.

The assistant reads these short paragraphs as background on its calls: who you are, what you do, who your clients are, and quirks a new hire would need to know, such as 24/7 or business-hours cover. The editor is on Settings, then AI Assistant, then Identity. It has five categories: Procedures, Tools & Software, Environments, Escalation and General. The wizard cannot save them for you, so you write them there and then mark the lesson done.

  7. Lesson 5, How this runs day to day: read it and click Got it.

Failed AI calls are tried again every minute. The nightly agenda build runs at 2 AM. The list of AI models is checked against your provider on the 1st and 15th of each month, so a model your provider retires does not quietly break the assistant. None of that needs a person. What needs a person is the business context, and watching spend on your provider's console.

  8. When the last lesson is done, check the banner and click See what's next.

The page says "All steps reviewed" and counts how many lessons you applied and skipped. See what's next returns to the wizard list, where Set up Elise now shows Done. Exit leaves the wizard at any point, and your finished lessons are kept.

What you will have

  • Give the assistant a working AI provider key, checked for real.
  • Set the name your team and clients see, and the starting voice it writes in.
  • Write down the business context the assistant reads as background on its calls.

Why it works this way: How to use the Set up Elise wizard

The lessons run in this order on purpose. Without a provider key nothing the assistant does works, so the key comes first and is checked against the real connection. Name and voice come next, and context comes last.

The assistant runs on an AI provider you connect and pay yourself. The portal does not mark up or resell the usage, so you watch spend on your provider's own console.

The wizard title and the lessons use the name you gave your assistant. This article says Elise, the default.

You need The Super Admin or Admin role in your portal · An API key from an AI provider, with billing set up on the provider's own site

Other ways to do this: How to use the Set up Elise wizard

Do it page by page without the wizard

Add the key on the Anthropic page under Integrations. Then set the name, voice and business context on Settings, then AI Assistant, then Identity.

You already know the pages and do not want the lesson text.

If it did not work: How to use the Set up Elise wizard

  • Lesson 1 says "Not connected yet": save a key on the Anthropic page, then click Re-check. Nothing the assistant does works until a key is saved.
  • Mark verified is greyed out: the check has not passed. Click Re-check after you save the key.
  • You do not see Set up Elise in the list: only a Super Admin or an Admin can run it.

Questions this page answers

What does the Set up Elise wizard do?

It walks you through adding an AI provider key, naming the assistant, picking its default voice and writing your business context, then explains what runs on its own.

Why does the Set up Elise wizard ask for a provider key first?

Nothing the assistant does works without one, so the first lesson checks for a real key before it lets you mark it done.

Who pays for the AI usage?

You do, directly to your AI provider. The portal does not mark up or resell the usage.

Where do I write my business context for the assistant?

On Settings, then AI Assistant, then Identity. The wizard lesson links straight there, and you mark the lesson done after you write your entries.
